I had my ZX Spectrum given to me as a present for Christmas in 1983 from my parents. It was the best Christmas that I have ever had - I also went Skiing in Italy that year as well for New Year!
The games I had on the big day were Manic Miner and Lunar Jetman - two of the best games that appeared on the platform in my opinion.
I am not sure what the next game(s) were but suffice to say there were many C90 tapes produced over the years, and lots of peripheral acquired for my new friend - the ZX Microdrive and Interface 1, DK'tronics keyboard, Currah Speech, Lightpen and various joysticks and interfaces to name but a few.
So Happy Birthday my good friend - you have been with me all the way now for 30 great years!!!
Yeah I know what you mean. I've tried it on my 37" Toshiba and 23" Samsung and get a lot of ghosting and dot crawl on both. I have got an old 14" CRT but I can't be bothered to set it up as they take too much space up. The other solution is to do a composite mod but I'm not sure I trust myself to do it successfully.
Hope you've been successful with the Speccy Tape app. I've also managed to get some turboloader games working by playing them through my PC and connecting it to my Spectrum (tough to get them amplified properly though). I used a program called OTLA to convert the TZX images to accelerated WAVS. When it works, games load in about 25% of their normal time.
Right, quick update for you. I tried converting a few TZX files to WAV but unfortunately the iPod Touch (or iPhone ) does not amplify the sound enough for the Spectrum to recognise it. I was about to edit the WAV's and increase their volume when I came across this fantastic little app...
It's called Speccy Tape and basically lets you download TZX images straight from the WorldofSpectrum site to your iDevice. It then converts and amplifies the image. I've tried a number of games through it and so far only had one that didn't load (Bubble Bobble). Well worth checking out mate.
Just received mty 48k Speccy in the post today, happy days Been looking at Divides, nice bit of kit but you're right Boyo, they are a bit steep. Think I'm gonna go down the TZX to WAV files route. Seen a few people using their iPhones to load turboloaded games. Anyone else tried this method?
Just having a Dk'tronics keyboard with Speccy inside delivered this week - thinking about getting a Divide - they are expensive but do make things a lot simpler.
